Write to Warner Bros. about Flash movie today

Online sources say that the script for the Flash movie is “solid” meaning that production will soon move on to the next stage. If we want to even stand a chance of bugging Warner Bros. about this movie before the cameras start to roll, we need to start writing to them NOW.

Here is the address listed for Warner Bros. Studios

Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.
4000 Warner Blvd.
Burbank, CA 91522

And for those of you closer to Burbank, if you’d like to take a more direct approach delivering your letter…

“What should I write?” some of you might wonder. Here are my suggestions for making an effective letter…

Envelop

  • Make the letter stand out in the first place. If you have an envelope that isn’t white then use it; color alone can draw attention! Are you able to draw? Draw something on the envelop- for that matter, draw on the letter. I’m thinking of making mine include a comic. Get creative. And if you have the money and time, it doesn’t hurt to send more than one copy of it.
  • Address your letter accordingly. Just sending it to “Warner Bros.” is too general. Be specific- make sure it is clear you mean for it to go to those in charge of the Flash Movie. (Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are the producers, thus the most obvious choice. You could address it to everyone else known to be involved- it’s up to you.)

Letter contents

  • Compare and contrast. This is a nice, easy way to show readers what you value in a superhero movie. Point out the strengths and/or weaknesses of similar movies, TV shows, or even comics to help explain your what you do and what you don’t hope to see in The Flash. For example, I might talk about what worked and what didn’t work in The Flash live action television show and encourage Warner Bros. to avoid the weaknesses I saw in the TV show. Other suggestions for comparison: The Green Lantern, Superman, any Marvel superhero movies
  • Be respectful. If your letter sounds like “just another fan raging” then it will be passed by. You want your letter to be read- do all you can to keep it from being an annoyance or it’s going in the shredder. Two of the best attitudes you can approach with are professionalism and good humor.
  • Consider what Warner Bros. has planned so far. They’ve decided Barry Allen will be the main character. Spending your entire letter begging them to switch it to Wally won’t get you very far. If we want to convince Warner Bros. to take our thoughts seriously, we have to show that we are at least a little flexible. Try to be like a teammate instead of a rival force or they’ll resist without thinking.
  • Appeal as a fan and offer reasons why your goal is important and helpful. This is one of the most important things to include. Give Warner Bros. a reason to listen- explain to them why you think your ideas are important and reach beyond “I want it that way.” This is about the entire community of Flash fans and about all those potential fans out there. It’s also about the legacy of a character. It won’t hurt to mention that happy fans buy a lot more. $$$ Warner Bros. like all other businesses, love money making opportunities.
  • If you can, show that your message is backed by more than one person. Get your friends and other fans you know to participate. You can even ask people who are merely potential viewers for the movie to help out. Say something to the people on your favorite DC website and give them links. Encourage others to write or have them sign your letter. I am considering starting a petition. I am also considering creating a basic letter for those who don’t have time to write their own to print out and send to Warner Bros. You are welcome to add a link to The Flash Movie Movement in your letter.
  • Don’t forget the basics and K.I.S.S. If you do manage to appeal to Warner Bros. it wont matter if your message is not clear. Make sure you include what it is you want or do not want. Just saying “Do a better job than you did before!” does not help. Give a suggestion how. If you can, try not to get caught up too much in tiny little details. Mentioning bigger elements to movies like the story pacing or character personalities that you want to see done right are more helpful than spending an entire page talking about what eye color the characters have to have. Not that you can’t mention some of those little details, but you don’t want to come across as nit-picky.

I hope that helps you out. If you do write in, you’re welcome to share what you wrote with the rest of us.

Script writers for the Flash Movie

Here’s the latest list of the writers for the Flash Movie. While they don’t have as much power as the producers and director, they will still have a big role in determining how the movie turns out.

Greg Berlanti (involved in writing Green Lantern script writing)

Michael Green (also involved with Green Lantern script writing)

Marc Guggenheim (ALSO involved with Green Lantern script writing)

In all fairness, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim are comic book writers and not necessarily used to writing for the big screen. Still, we really don’t need the Flash script to be like the Green Lantern was. For all we know, the three listened to the criticism received and plan on trying harder this time… It won’t hurt for us fans to give them a friendly reminder though…

It turns out there was another script for the movie written by David Goyer (writer for Batman Begins) but he and Warner Bros. couldn’t agree on what type of movie The Flash would be. What does that mean?

Producers and Director

According to an article on The Hollywood Reporter site, these are the men in charge of The Flash movie.

Producers

Charles Roven

Alex Gartner

Director

Shawn Levy

Supposedly Levy will oversee the writing of the newest draft of the movie script. He might also do some producing work.

We need contact info for these three and Warner Bros. asap. The sooner we start bothering the big movie machine the better. Warner Bros. has a huge huge hand in DC movies. Compared to Marvel, DC has less say on what the movies are like.

Calling all DC fans!

As we all know, Marvel’s Avengers movie suggests that DC might try to make a Justice League movie some time in the future. Before they can, they will have to introduce a wider audience to more members of the league. There are rumors about Wonderwoman and Aquaman movies, and writers have already been hired for The Flash movie. Not long ago, DC and Warner Bros. attempted to introduce the Green Lantern to audiences everywhere… Apparently their attempt was not very impressive.

They tried to put too much into it! If only they had slowed down. It would have been so much better… I didn’t even feel excited during the final battle.

This was part of a conversation I had with a friend who is a huge fan of the Green Lantern comics. It was during this conversation that I realized other heroes might end up with the same type of movie. Let’s keep that from happening.

Here at flashmovie.tumblr.com I will be sharing with you updates of my effort to send a message to DC and Warner Bros.: Don’t do to the Flash what you did to the Green Lantern!

I can’t do this all by myself though. I need other fans to take action and demand better from Hollywood. Send me your ideas and any information you think will help. For example, I need to know addresses to which letters can be sent to DC, Warner Bros., and the people involved with the creation of the Flash movie. Drop a message in the ask, submit, or email me. dcflashmovie at gmail.com

If enough of us rally together, they will have to listen sooner or later.

We're on a mission to make sure DC and Warner Bros. creates a movie that is worthy of representing The Flash.
